We're Fracked

Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," is a method of extracting oil and natural gas deposits from rock. In short, it involves injecting water, sand, and other things into rock to break it up, so as to allow for recovery of fossil fuels. The oil industry tells us it is safe and clean, and will provide all the energy we need for like eleventy billion years, and will also put and end to puppy death.

I will note that, according to this NYT article, the industry is (gasp!) over-stating the potential benefits. What I do not doubt for a second is that the industry is under-stating the potential down side. Take for example this:
A Sophisticated Waste Disposal Plan

When in doubt, never, ever, ever, for any reason, ever trust the oil industry.
